THE ROLE OF STEM IN PREPARING YOUNG PEOPLE
The global economy is changing. Due to automation, existing jobs are disappearing worldwide and new jobs are being created every day due to technological progress. Continuing advances in technology are changing the way students learn, socialize and interact every day. The skills students develop through STEM subjects form the foundation for success in school and beyond.
Employer demand for STEM qualifications and skills is high and will continue to increase in the future. Currently, 75 percent of jobs in the fastest-growing industries require workers with STEM skills.
STEM provides a powerful way to engage students in higher-level thinking and improve their problem-solving skills by placing science and mathematics in the context of technology and engineering. Giving students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience helps them learn meaningfully and improve their cognitive skills.
MAIN OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT
The main reason for providing STEM education in Pakistan is to develop Pakistan's 21st century workforce capable of integrating applied experiences and theoretical knowledge across disciplines to solve real-world problems. Individuals engaged in STEM-based learning are expected to acquire a balance of hard and soft skills, including communication, collaboration, problem solving, leadership, creativity, and innovation.
STEM SCAFFOLD IN PAKISTAN
In Pakistan, the STEM system will complement the existing school education system. Initially, 50 (fifty) pure Government Higher Secondary Schools (HSS), including six (6) Cadet Colleges, will be selected from across the country in consultation with the concerned provincial departments.
MAIN OBJECTIVES OF THE STEM PROJECT
- 1. Officially launch STEM, the modern tool for promoting science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education in Pakistan.
- 2. Coordinate the delivery of specialized national and international capacity development programs in STEM education for science teachers and educators.
- 3. Coordinate the development, implementation, and implementation of modern pedagogical tools and interventions for STEM.
- 4. Provide our young people with meaningful learning through hands-on experiences and improve their cognitive skills.
- 5. Develop entrepreneurial skills in students through STEM education to make them job creators rather than job seekers.
